Truth or lie? Count for yourself.
In Feb 2013, Pak Mie said that he had 700 dogs and 200 cats. True or false? See for yourself.
(Pics taken in March 2013.)
The shelter runs a long a narrow strip of land between the road and river. Pics start at the beginning as you drive in and ends at the main entrance at the end.
This is the only area that has access to the river. Once, when Pak Mie had gone to KL, the water had run out after two days and nobody knew how to operate the water pump. There was no more drinking water for the animals. Mak Intan and I took water for the dogs in this enclosure from the river here. It is the only part of the shelter where the land is low enough to reach the river. It was way too hard to walk and carry water to other parts of the shelter, so in the end the animals just had to stay thirsty till Pak Mie came back. No other system.

The child pointed out that the king wore no clothes. Some said, “Yes, you’re right, but I dared not say so in public.”
Some said, “You’re just trying to bring him down cos you’re jealous that you can’t see it.”
Some said, “Ah, I must rush to the king’s defense and show him my loyalty cos here is a chance to spite my enemy.”
Yet others say, “The king is a simple man, he doesn’t know what is good cloth. We shall sell him better and even MORE expensive cloth that only OUR clever supporters can see!”
I sit back and laugh at the fools running around stabbing each other, while watching the animals die...

The reason why I got kicked out
I didn’t want to post this initially because it was a personal matter between two people, but since absolute strangers who know nothing about anything have been posting lies about me all over the place, I will tell the truth, however unpalatable.
This is a message I wrote to a friend earlier. I don’t want to tell the whole story again, so I’m just cutting and pasting here.

PAK MIE'S LIES #3: The Agong gave him a piece of land in Baling to build his new shelter
Map shows the current location of the shelter (yellow strip along the river), and the forest reserve that he wants (to the right). |
Pak Mie says (paraphrase): "The local council wants to evict me soon. I am pinning all my hopes on the Sultan (current Agong). That piece of forest reserve land down the road would be the ideal location to move to. It is 36 acres. There will be plenty of land for the shelter and the excess space will be enough of a buffer from the closest neighbour. My only hope now is for the Sultan to grant it to me.

Red FM Teh Tarik Party Fundraiser
Woohoo! The first real accounting, and perhaps the only one we will ever see, of Pak Mie’s money. RM18,000 for Pak Mie Shelter (Source: Red FM). One person even donated RM10,000 (Source: The Star). Whee!!!
Now there is enough money to buy:
18,000 water bowls
2.25 tonnes of goat's meat for the dogs to eat
Spay or neuter 72 animals
Treat 450 animals for mange
Hire 2 full-time workers for 10 months
Now, let’s see if your money is used for any of the above.
On the morning of the same day, Pet Project Malaysia also held a fundraiser for Pak Mie Shelter and two other (legitimate) NGOs. (Read more about this at The Star.)
Another five-figure fundraiser! Let’s see where all your money goes after this.

Cleanup Day
A conversation I had with another volunteer. Chatting about the gotong-royong (cleaning campaign) we organised last weekend (March 15-17).
K: ... the dogs there deserves better home. He is not taking care of the dogs. Let the dog eat leftover nasi lemak till the pups there vomit n diarrhea.
Me: Omg, eat nasi lemak! You know why... it rained on the second day, nobody went. There were so many boxes of food uneaten.
K: Ya la.. the rice he bought for us with the fund.
Me: Money we donated?
Miko starves
I went to the place today to drop off some food that I had bought for their rabbits and chicken earlier. I also cooked some food for Miko, the rottie. He was always so very hungry. Look how small his body is in relation to his head. Pak Mie said that Miko doesn’t like rice because he often leaves a lot uneaten. Sometimes he tips his bowl over. Pak Mie said that he was protesting because he didn’t like the food. Strange, I thought.
One day, I observed Miko eating and finally realised out that it was none of the above. They put the food in such a small bowl that he simply could not fit his big face into it! The rice would be pressed solid against the bottom and sides of the dish. He would lick and lick at it, trying to pick it up, and the harder he licked, the more compressed it became. Then he would give up and flop down and just stare at the bowl. Think how hard it is for a dog with such a blunt face to turn over his bowl. It was simply to get at the food inside! He wasn’t protesting - that just goes to show how much Pak Mie knew about dogs. At any rate, the portion is also too small because the bowl is simply too small. I bought him a bigger bowl, but it was gone the next day because there are always never enough bowls to go around. They never buy any bowls no matter how much money you give them. Miko’s single bowl here is alternated between water and food, and here he has neither, which is the norm.
Dog and cat hoarders unite!
Hmm... so, nobody knows what a hoarder is. Haven't you seen it on tv? Here are some interesting videos. It's creepy how they all say the same things as Mak Intan.

PAK MIE'S LIES #2: Number of animals
Pak Mie says: He has 700 dogs and 200 cats. (This was printed in a proposal for the new shelter.)
What BS. There are less than 250 dogs, and if you add puppies, a little more - maybe a maximum of 300. Cats, 80 max. Why inflate the numbers by more than double? Is it not to get double the amount of money? He knows those out of town and overseas will never come and check.

PAK MIE'S LIES #1: Cost of food
Pak Mie says: It costs RM600 per day to feed the animals, as the dogs eat 50kg of rice per day.
Really? Let's do some maths.
He feeds them broken rice. Not human-grade broken rice that are small white pieces, but animal-grade broken rice, which is green and brown and is mostly chaff (padi hampa). That rice is RM1.60 per kg.
Chicken - look closely at the pic above. These are all discarded parts (fat, skin and heart), they are free of charge.
So,
Rice: RM1.60 x 50kg = RM80
Chicken: Free
Cat kibble RM7kg x RM10: RM70
Total: RM150/day.
But let's say he was super generous and fed them human-grade broken rice at RM2.00 per kg.
Rice: RM2 x 50kg = RM100
Chicken: Free
Cat kibble: RM70
Total: RM170.
First he said RM500 per day (in the video), then later it became RM600 when it's actually only RM150. Exaggerate much?

FAQ: "Why don't you stop talking and go and rescue the animals if you are so concerned?"
Ahahahahahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! Once upon a time, Pak Mie's neighbours complained to the city council. The council showed up with a lorry and a bunch of personnel to catch his dogs. As they went in, he pulled out a 3-foot parang, stuck it deep in the ground and stood there with his hands on the hilt of the parang, which came up to his waist. He said, "You want to take my dogs? Ok, you take my dogs, but when you come out, I'll cut off your heads." They quietly left.
But if you want to rescue the animals yourself, feel free.

February 2013 album (the pics below)
All albums
These pics were taken at Pak Mie's hell by the head of an NGO between 13-16 February 2013. I don't know all the subjects in the pictures, but will comment on ones that I know.
The dogs' food is white rice and chicken parts. This is all chicken fat with the occasional heart. These are all free as they are worthless discards. There is no meat, not even a chicken head (which costs 10c).

What do people mean when say I am lying? Most of these pics were taken from Pak Mie's own Facebook album. You mean to say HE was lying? What do you mean, that he bought cat shit and piled them up under the cages? He bought cat urine and poured it on the ground? Then he finds a few hundred sick and emaciated cats and sticks them there, takes photos, then immediately removes them to live in a luxurious place, then posts the pics on his Facebook to gain your sympathy and money? What do you mean exactly when you say I/he was lying?

Hi, I hope what Im going to write here is not interrupting. My purpose to write this true story here is because Im really out of idea to help out to save the dogs happened in a shelter in Kedah.
well, here is the story..I knew about this shelter months ago.the first visit had made me surprised to c 400+dogs and 200+cats in one shelter and is fully run by a couple of husband and wife.I was totally wordless to see the amazing couple alone take care of such a big shelter with so many animals inside.I had fell in love to the couple because I really saluted them. So, I decided to help. And they said they would preferred to receive cash donations because they are poor and they need the money to buy needs for the animals there.

Let me make one thing clear. This place is not a shelter and has never been a shelter. I don't know who came up with the word “Shelter” because it most certainly is not one.
What do you think the word “Shelter” in “Pak Mie Shelter” means?
A) A structure that protects you from the elements, danger or attack, and gives you a place to live.
B) An organisation which cares for strays and other homeless pets and seeks to find permanent homes for them.
If you think B, as I did, you are wrong. The correct answer is A. Pak Mie's place (I refuse to call it a shelter), is a place where stray animals or unwanted pets have a place to live and are safe from being hurt by hooligans who hate animals. That's all. The animals will NOT be adopted out. This is non-negotiable. They will live there until they die of old age or disease, whichever comes first, usually the latter. They will never become someone's beloved pet or a child's best friend. They will never go for walks or hikes. They will never play ball or fetch. They will never have a soft bed or a scratching post. They will just have a roof over their heads (if they are lucky, a non-leaky part), some food to eat, and some water to drink, sometimes. Some will never even step beyond the small circle where they are tied.
Pak Mie says, “The only way they are leaving this place is when I bury them.”
Animal shelter, my foot.

People need to know the truth about what goes on in this hell on earth. Animals are starving, sick, suffering and dying there every day. It is not what you see on the video. That was long ago. It is no longer like that. Even if you go there, you won't see the full horror unless you step inside each enclosure. And few ever do.
If you don’t know who Pak Mie is, this was the video that made him famous.
Pak Mie (Azmi bin Ismail) and his wife Mak Intan (Halijah bt. Idris) were being evicted from the place they were illegally squatting on. Pak Mie approached journalist Shanice See from Malaysiakini to help publicise his plight, and she made this video about him in Feb 2013.
Soon, Hisyam Salleh made another video about him, entitled “A Stray Hero”.
